Abstract: 

The writer cautions the authors of the Saturday Press to look outside the walls of the city towards the countryside surrounding New York where many of the readers of the Press reside. He discusses how it has been raining for days and much of the Connecticut River Valley is flooded. He then relates a story from years past in which he witnessed the failed rescue of a drowned boy in a river.
