The Pigeon Prize; or, Variations on a Paradox.  Translated from the French of Dumas the Young [From the Southern Literary Messenger] A suitor must earn a significant amount of money in a period of a year in order to please the father of his love.  He almost attempts suicide owing to his lack of funds, but stumbles upon a study that pays him a great sum if he can eat 30 roasted pigeons.  He manages, earns the money, and marries the girl.
