My Forenoon with the Baby [from Harper's Monthly] The story recounts Fred's efforts to calm his crying cousin, for whom he is caring while the infant's mother is at church.  Deeming the child an evil with the intent of torturing him, Fred tries to ignore the screaming, returning to his book.  Upon his Aunt's return he tells her of his efforts to calm the child.
