Ada Clare (whose given name was Jane McIlheny) was born in South Carolina.
Clare casts a critical eye on the book A Wife’s Trials and Triumphs, arguing that, while it is not an interesting book, it is not a badly written one. She also reviews Laura Keene’s play Distant Relations, and the book, Appelles and Contemporaries. She concludes with some remarks about Jane Austen.
