On October 23, 1858, Henry Clapp, Jr., published the inaugural issue of The Saturday Press.
This article reprints a table from a journal stating how a genteel family of seven can live for under $2000 a year. The author humorously suggests that the rate of subscription to the Saturday Press ($2) be added to the expenses, as a genteel family could hardly be expected to do without.
