Abstract

The writer comments on and criticizes certain trends in travel writing, citing texts by Bayard Taylor, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ik Marvel, George William Curtis, Ross Brown, Bickford, and Stevens. He then describes his travels in New Jersey without using any of the methods he criticizes earler. He focuses on describing the political climate and his tavern excursions.
