Ada Clare (whose given name was Jane McIlheny) was born in South Carolina.
Clare writes about a vibrant, cultured, and delicate woman she once met in France. She holds this woman up as Bohemianism incarnate, not the drunken, sneering gentleman other papers paint Bohemians to be.
