This article banteringly comments on the Southern perspective of the Civil War following their loss, the abolition of slavery, and their subsequent economic hardship. The Northern writer claims to have assigned "a large corps of correspondents to the South" to collect research for the article. Instead of printing all "hundred and twenty-two closely written letters" he received from his correspondents, he paraphrases their findings into a list of fifteen important points.
