Dramatic Feuilleton

Personne [Wilkins, Edward G. P.]. "Dramatic Feuilleton." New-York Saturday Press. 28 Apr. 1860: 2-3.
Type:
newspaper
Genre:
theater criticism
Abstract:

Personne begins with a general discussion of theater news - what's playing where, who has had a benefit, and what the Summer season holds. Personne remarks in his discussion of Tom Taylor's Overland Route that some of the "Pfaff Light Guard" would be well suited to perform in the first act, beginning with a scene aboard an East Indian Steamer, followed by a scene that takes place on a rock (2). Personne gives an update on the "Opera Wars." He also discusses the "Hibernian Rows": the dispute between Bourcicualt and Miss J.M.N.C. Davenport over a new version of Jeanie Deans and an argument between John Brougham and Barney Williams over their depictions of Irish gentlemen. Personne weighs in with his opinion of each actors' strengths in this type of role.
