Ada Clare (whose given name was Jane McIlheny) was born in South Carolina.
This is the story of one non-French speaking man's struggle to find his way about Paris but instead stumbling upon love during a First Communion ceremony at the Church of Notre Dame de Lorette. His unrestrained attraction to a young French girl and unusual friendship with her mother leads him to begin a mysteriously illicit love affair, one which becomes accidentally intertwined with a hidden family history.
