Abstract

Personne reviews the week's opera performances, Mr. Lacoste's "literary and musical soiree" at Dodworth's, and very briefly reviews Eletion at Laura Keene's. Personne mentions his "very extensive bone to pick" with Mr. Barney Williams and reviews his An Hour in Seville. Personne reports the news from Philadelphia about Edwin Forrest's reaction to Barry Sullivan's performance as Hamlet. Personne engages in a lengthy discussion of the Winter Garden and Bourcicault's works and reviews the farce for Jefferson, Retained for the Defense. Personne announces that the play about the Earl of Rochester is still at Wallack's, but next week audiences will see Miss Walcot's first attempt at playwriting, a translation of Les Deux Aveugles. Personne concludes with a mention of the current debate between the "critics" at the Daily News and Spirit of the Times about his work in the Feuilletons.
