In this edition of "Literary Notes," the Saturday Press notes that they are currently receiving the "best books" from publishers and briefly discusses the odd nature of "gift books." Tom Brown's School Days, Arago's Biographies, and Poems by Frances Anne Kemble are given specific mentions, and in the case of Mrs. Kemble's work, two of her poems are reproduced. The column also gives brief updates on other publications and authors, including a list of the French publications currently suppressed by Louis Napoleon, the Shah of Persia's order to have the works of Emperor Napoleon III translated into Persian, and an exhaustive list of the contents of several periodicals - both American and British/Irish - for January and February.
