The editors provide "a portion of the correspondence which has lately appeared in the New York Journals relative to the originality of a story entitled The Diamond Lens, which appeared in the January number of the Atlantic monthly." This correspondence consists mainly of letters from O'Brien himself and Augustus Maverick, concerning whether the story was taken from William North's unpublished manuscript, Microcosmos.
