Abstract
Clare expresses "great joy" at receiving Mitchell's letter but is confused as to how he received a banker's draft since she has not drawn any money "before the 5th of last March." She claims it is a pity he could not be in France sooner since "the weather is perfectly heavenly." Before closing, she apologizes for the nature of her prior letter, described as "an earnest expression of my anxieties and troubles."
