Horace Greeley was born in 1811 near Amherst, New Hampshire, to a poor farming family.
The Saturday Press condemns Appleton’s New American Cyclopedia for being poorly put together and entirely unreliable. The greedy men at Appleton are tricking the public into buying a faulty text which cost little to make, and whose proceeds will be large. The Press feels that it has a duty to bring these issues to attention, though it does so at some cost.
An electronic version of this text was previously available in CONTENTdm and has been migrated to Lehigh University's Digital Collections. Reconstruction of direct links to individual articles is in progress. In the meantime, browse issues of the Saturday Press in the Vault at Pfaff's Digital Collection. Page images of The New York Saturday Press were scanned from microfilm owned by Emory University, which was made from original copies held by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
